About Southern Comfort Equine
Dr. Courtnee Morton grew up outside Fort Worth in Saginaw, Texas. She has wanted to be a veterinarian since she was 4 years old! She received her Bachelor’s in Animal Science at Oklahoma State University; while there she worked at the vet school as a part of the Equine Exercise Physiology research team which focused on airway studies. She then enrolled in Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine, completed her practical year at Louisiana State University, and graduated with her DVM in 2017. She completed an internship at Durango Equine Veterinary Clinic in Arizona, where she foaled out over 50 mares, and focused on breeding and emergency medicine. After all the moving around, she decided it was finally time to move back home to Texas! She was an associate at a small ambulatory practice in the Fort Worth/Dallas area with emphasis on English sport horses, then spent two years at Elgin Veterinary Hospital, a large referral center where she became involved with some surgery experience, managing critical hospitalized patients, and neonatal care.
She became certified in equine veterinary acupuncture in 2021 at the Chi Institute.
Dr. Morton’s grandfather bought land in Carlton, Texas when he was young, and Dr. Morton enjoyed spending her summers with him on his farm growing up; her parents moved there while she was in school. In 2021, Dr. Morton decided to follow her lifelong dream of starting her own mobile veterinary practice in a place her heart has always called “home,” close to her family. In her free time, Dr. Morton enjoys hiking, kayaking, and spending time with her three dogs Mr. Feeny, Ellie, and Maverick. She has a love for her long-eared patients, and hopes to someday have a whole herd of donkeys!
